TRANSITION TO DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Author:   SEEMS S.A.

In Industry, there have been several 'revolutions' over time, which were linked to important developments in Media, Materials, Processes, etc., dramatically differentiating the involvement and the result. The so-called 4th Industrial Revolution, with its main exponent being Digital Transformation, seems sweeping in its arrival, but it does not surprise us. The dynamism and achievements of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), in recent decades, have forewarned us of upcoming changes in all areas of human daily life, with the use of modern technology, samples of which we are already tasting. And with the geometric speed with which ICT applications evolve, the 'turn to the New' has now become the latest routine!

Digital Transformation in Industry holds a lot of promise and can really change the landscape for the better, with the careful planned use of technology and a new way of looking at things. In the future industrial space, everything that can be measured will be completely documented, and with a continuous flow of qualitative and quantitative information, at all levels, with the aim of more effectively and safely supporting the process of making and implementing decisions and controlling the results.

Present situation

At the end of 2019, the implementation rates of Digital Transformation in the industry at the global level are still low, and for the majority of mainly advanced countries, they range between 10-20%. On the other hand, consultations, investigations, and initial actions are at a higher rate but with a relatively slow growth rate. It is estimated that the current decade of 2020-30 will be needed for the ISM to reach, on a global scale, a high level of integration, if we consider that the transition process to the new situation requires considerable time, coordinated collective effort, cost, and, in general, faith-persistence for the 'digital transformation'.

The adaptation to the new data is imperative to be carried out in a timely and valid manner by all industries and especially to support the goals of extroversion and competitiveness, a demand that is the driving factor in development, robustness, and modern business dynamics. The need for this change is faced today with several doubts from a large part of the field, but it is certain that sooner or later everyone will follow the 'turn to the New - Modern' because otherwise, they will remain 'incompatible' within the business environment.

Design & Implementation

In the transition to Digital Transformation as a first step, the acquisition of relevant knowledge is required, especially from the management and from the specialized technical staff, as well as relevant information training for all employees. At the same time, it is considered appropriate to investigate good practices in the 'nearest market', which can be used as examples both to imitate and to avoid! However, the critical condition is the selection of a specialized partner-consultant, who will plan and supervise the implementation of the Transition Plan to the PSM. The industries need to realize that the PSM is a 'suit' that is designed and 'tailored' to the measurements of each company. There is no off-the-shelf Solution!

Finally, the opinion that the systems of the Digital Age 'do all the work' and that man is marginalized is a serious mistake. The human mind is not replaceable. The secret to the successful transition and management of modern Digital Reality in the industry (and not only) is hidden in the human resources, which, as a priority, must be prepared in time, properly, and sufficiently.

Therefore, strategic design and course for PSM, with the compass of modern Digital Culture.
